Trainer Profile: Ms Sue Collett

Susie combines over 20 years experience as an English Language and Literacy specialist and work place competency based trainer within a variety of industries. She has extensive experience in project management both in small and large organisations in implementing flexible, customised training programs ranging from production process workers through to industry management.

Susie gained her experience working for private English Language Colleges in NSW, TAFE SA English Language Services and the Workplace Education Unit. Her career has offered her head training and coordination positions in manufacturing, food processing, community services, aged care, family day care and small business areas.

Susie's major area of expertise is in developing customised plain English materials and delivering training to Non English speaking workers. She has developed paper and computer-based resources for organisations such as the Australian Food Training Centre, WorkCover, Workplace English Language and Literacy (WELL) program, and National Family Day Care.

She has delivered competency based training over the following areas:

Quality, OH&S, Rehabilitation and Return to Work, Workplace Communication, Cross Cultural Communication, Change Management, Work Priorities, and Continuous Improvement.

For the past 4 years Susie has worked in collaboration as a workplace Trainer delivering the core competencies for Certificates I and II in the food processing industry and as a specialist language and literacy consultant with such companies as:

Australian Food Training Centre, Adelaide Poultry, TipTop Bakeries, Inghams Enterprises, Multicultural SA and The Overseas Chinese Association.

Qualifications

Susie's Qualifications include:

  • Diploma of Teaching, Flinders University
  • Graduate Diploma In Teaching English as a Second Language, Charles Darwin University
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, TAFESA
  • Three units from Certificate IV in Project Management, TAFESA

She is currently involved in the writing and development of plain English resource workbooks for the food processing industry and using competencies from the Business Services Training Package for Getting Started in Small Business. This has included consultation with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) Quality Assurance and liaison with WELL-funded programs.
